What is Microblading?

With roots as an ancient beauty technique born in Asia, today, microblading is a far more refined procedure. What started as a cosmetic tattoo is now known as semi-permanent makeup, mirroring the look of your everyday eyebrow pencil. A skilled beauty technician uses a special handheld tool to implement fine strokes of pigment amongst your natural brow hairs, ideal for those with naturally thin or lackluster eyebrows.

Drawn on with expert precision, microblading perfectly resembles natural eyebrow hairs, blending seamlessly with your own for a bold but naturally fluffy look. Microblading looks different on every person because the treatment is always tailored to the natural shape of your face and brow goals.

Microblading Might Be For You If:

  • You never leave the house without your brow makeup on.

  • Your eyebrows are naturally thin and lacking in definition.

  • You have uneven brows in either fullness or shape.

  • You have been overzealous with tweezers in the past, and now new hairs refuse to grow.

  • You want to save time and effort on your everyday beauty routine.

  • You have a hair loss condition such as alopecia.

  • You feel self-conscious when you can’t wear makeup.

  • You have normal skin and small pores.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does Microblading Last?

Microblading is an incredible semi-permanent makeup technique that can last anywhere from one to three years. How long the results last depends on your age, metabolism, activity levels, and skin type. Regular touch-ups are the best way to ensure results last as long as possible.

Does Microblading Hurt?

It depends on your threshold for pain, but generally, microblading is much less painful than a traditional tattoo. This is because the pigment is applied with a much smaller utensil (hence the ‘micro’), and each hair stroke is hand drawn. The tiny needle only pierces the very surface of the skin, at a much shallower depth than traditional tattooing.

Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area to reduce pain, and many clients describe a light scratching sensation if any pain at all. You can take Tylenol beforehand but make sure you avoid any painkillers which can thin your blood, such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

Is Microblading Permanent?

While often referred to as ‘permanent makeup,’ microblading typically lasts between one and three years. As the hair strokes are drawn on in shallow incisions in the skin, the pigment remains fairly surface level and will eventually fade over time as your skin cells regenerate. How quickly this happens depends on your skin type, lifestyle, and metabolism. Regular touch-ups can help the results last longer.

How Long Does Microblading Take?

A full microblading appointment at DMV Salon typically takes two hours. Much of this time is spent on a full consultation, where your qualified technician will talk you through the process and map out the proposed shape of your new brows so you can check you are happy with them. You will have the chance to choose the color for your pigment, whether you want to go with something close to your natural color or a little darker for a more dramatic look.

Once both you and your artist are happy with the shape and symmetry of your new brows, the actual microblading process will begin, which takes around 30 minutes. Afterward, you will be provided with full microblading aftercare instructions to help the healing process go smoothly.

How Do I Know If I Am a Suitable Candidate?

At DMV Salon, we provide a free consultation to find out if you are a suitable candidate or not, based on your skin type, medical history, and a range of other factors. We have also put some guidelines on the type of people who are perfect candidates for microblading and those who should avoid it. Read them here to get an idea of whether microblading might be right for you.

What is 3D Microblading?

3D microblading is a special technique that precisely mimics the natural direction of your brow hairs for a highly realistic effect. Rather than drawing the hair strokes all in one direction, this technique takes into account the pattern of your hairs across your eyebrow ridges to ensure a flawlessly natural look is achieved. All of our technicians are highly trained in the art of 3D microblading.

What is the Aftercare for Microblading?

Good microblading aftercare is the best way to ensure the treatment lasts as long as possible while speeding up the healing process. Check out our full guide to eyebrow microblading aftercare here.

How Much Does Microblading Cost?

The cost of microblading at DMV Salon is determined based on an initial consultation with our skilled technicians.

This session includes facial mapping to create a new shape and definition for your eyebrows. Some clients may require a follow-up appointment eight weeks later. Regular touch-ups are typically scheduled once or twice a year.

Please note that the first consultation, which assesses the suitability of microblading for your skin type, is free of charge.
